Owls Breeding France
Metropolitan France has nine species of owls nesting. The barn owl, the owl of Athena and the owl
-eared are present on almost all the territory where they frequent the groves and open environments. The tawny owl is common too, nestled in the woods and lowland forests. At the end of winter, the Grand Duke settled in Europe in the cliffs of the rugged country. The owl of Europe and the boreal owl are two rare species that frequent the mountain forests.
The short-eared owl, more common in winter, even occasionally nest in swamps and wasteland. The scops owl scops, southernmost, is the only nocturnal bird of prey to winter in Africa before returning, on our territory in April.
